Sea Level will rise more than expected for 2100, says study

Report of the Australian government shows that sea level will rise from 0.5 to one meter higher than the value determined by the IPCC

The water level of the sea will rise one meter more than previously estimated, in 2100, as a consequence of global warming, a study of the Australian Government released on Monday (23).

"The calculation of the likely increase in the level of sea water in 2100 compared to 2000, is 0.5 to one meter," according to the report entitled "critical decade" of the Commission on Climate Change.
This figure surpasses the calculations of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change United Nations, which predicted an increase from 0.18 to 0.76 meter for the same period, the report said.

The level of sea water increased by 20 cm since 1880, said the study.

The commission also charged decarbonize the Australian economy, ie, minimizes the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) and use clean energy sources by 2050.

The head of the Commission, Tim Flannery, said Australia has exactly eight years and seven months to meet the target of 5% reduction in CO2 emissions for 2020 compared to 2000 levels, according to local broadcaster " ABC. "

Australia is one of the most polluting nations in the world in per capita terms, with a rate five times higher than China's, just the main market for its exports of coal and other natural resources.

Australia signed the Kyoto Protocol when Labour came to power in 2007 and is currently a controversial debate in the country tax for carbon emissions. Source
